My review
Level of familiarity before listening
I reviewed Home, Home on the Road by New Riders of the Purple Sage a week ago and loved it. I’ve never heard “Powerglide” before.
What I expected
More psychedelic country.
What it was actually like
The musical style on “Powerglide” was pretty consistent with “Home, Home on the Road,” which was excellent. I didn’t care much for California Day, but thought Rainbow and Sweet Lovin’ One were both very good.
I remarked before that I thought the NRPS version of Ricky Nelson’s Hello Mary Lou was outstanding, and it was outstanding on this record also. I felt the exact same way about their cover of Willie and the Hand Jive – Eric Clapton should have just copied what NRPS did.
Grade
