My review

Level of familiarity before listening

I’m familiar with the Eagles and with their song Hotel California, which is not on this record, but my impression is that they recorded a lot of popular songs, so maybe I’ll recognize some of them.

What I expected

Rock.

What it was actually like

This was ok.

I did actually recognize two of the songs, which were pretty similar to each other: Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling. They were both pretty simple, with a country sound, and I guess were the best on the record. The former had banjo that I liked, as did Earlybird, though I found it difficult to get over the weird birdsong sound effects, because I use a morning wakeup alarm clock that sounds the same way!

Most of the rest of the record was not very interesting. Train Leaves Here This Morning was a decent folk rock song, but Most of Us Are Sad, in a similar genre, was bad. Tryin’ was an ok country rock song, but Witchy Woman, also country rock, was not good at all.

Chug All Night, Nightingale and Take the Devil were all rock songs, and all pretty boring. I guess I like the Eagles as a country band better!
